What is this about?

Most modern motorcycles automatically cancel the turn signal after about 200 m of riding. Older models – like my 2001 BMW R1100R – don’t have this feature, so it’s easy to forget the indicator on, which can be misleading and dangerous.

The installed OEM relay is the same as in the later R1150 models, and it is capable of auto-canceling if it receives a proper speed signal.

Without ABS and with a mechanical speedometer, this signal is missing. The solution is an ABS ring on the front wheel with a sensor. The signal is a weak AC waveform, while the relay expects clean 12 V pulses – therefore a signal converter is needed.

A signal adapter is required to properly interface the ABS sensor to the OEM relay input.
